About Miriam Halahmy
Miriam Halahmy writes novels, short stories and poetry for children, teens and adults. Her stories and poems have been included in anthologies, read on the radio and performed on stage.
Miriam was a special needs teacher and departmental head for many years. She believes that all young people have a future and reading can offer a route map forward. She has been married into an Iraqi family for over thirty years and their stories provided much of the inspiration for HIDDEN.
Miriam has worked with refugees and asylum seekers for many years in schools as well as leading workshops for English PEN and the Medical Foundation for the Victims of Torture. She has written an educational resource on child asylum seekers.
An active participant in promoting peace and dialogue across divided communities, Miriam believes in standing up to any injustice, however small. Her recent books include THE EMERGENCY ZOO, YASMIN’S JOURNEY and BEHIND CLOSED DOORS.
