About Jane Porter

I'm an author and illustrator specialising in picture books. My books as author and illustrator include 'King Otter' (Simon & Schuster 2019) and 'Pink Lion' (Waker Books 2017), and I've illustrated two books written by Paul Stewart – 'Wings!', and 'Brian The Brave', both published by Otter Barry Books. I like to use anything from collage to household emulsion and ink to create my artwork and have even made my own ink from oak galls.

My latest book as an author only is 'The Boy Who Loved Everyone', illustrated by Maisie Paradise Shearring (Walker Books 2019). It was inspired by real children at the nursery I visit once a week.

I love visiting schools and running activities, workshops and storytime events for families.

When I'm not working I like to be out on the river – I've built my own coracle (an iron age boat) and love river swimming too. I also volunteer cleaning up my local river, the Wandle, and I've made an alphabet from the rubbish I've found in the water over the years. It was exhibited in the Museum of London!
